BOROUGE 4, Ruwais, UAE
Client: Abu Dhabi Polymers
The $6.2 billion project is part of the polyolefin manufacturing complex in Ruwais. Borouge 4 will utilise Borealis’ proprietary Borstar technology in meeting growing demand across a range of industrial sectors, including infrastructure, energy, advanced packaging and agriculture throughout the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific.
The new Borouge 4 facility covers an area equivalent to almost 500 football pitches. As one of the key pillars of ADNOC’s growth strategy, it will contribute to the continued development of the UAE’s downstream and industry sector.

Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex Upgrade, Uzbekistan
Client: Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex LLC
The Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex (SGCC) uses natural gas resources to separate ethane and produce 140 ktpa of ethylene which is then converted to produce up to 125 ktpa of LLDPE as their primary product. Future assessment of natural gas has identified an increase in ethane composition by up to 60% that can be processed to produce an additional 80 ktpa of ethylene, bringing the total production of ethylene to 220 ktpa. With this additional ethylene SGCC intends to install a new bimodal polyethylene unit to produce between 75 – 100 ktpa of HDPE product alongside its existing 125 ktpa of LLDPE product. This project is called the Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex Upgrade Project (SGCCUP).
Sulphur Recovery Unit (SRU) Abu Dhabi Refinery
Client: Abu Dhabi Refinery
The project involves the construction of a new 50 tonnes per day Sulphur Recovery Unit in Ruwais. The unit will recover sulfur from hydrogen sulphide-rich gas produced in the Hydroxide sulphurization and Unibon units by converting it into elemental sulphur through a thermal and catalytic reaction. The liquid sulphur is then sent to the Sulphur Handling Terminal for granulation and export. The project is part of Ruwais Refinery which produces liquefied petroleum gas, premium unleaded gasoline (98 Octane) and special unleaded gasoline (95 Octane).
Ethylene Vinyl Acetate Plant and Utilities, Jubail, KSA
Client: Jubail, Saudi Arabia
The project involves construction of an ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and polyethylene plant with an annual capacity of 200, 000 tones a year.
Plant capacity is 200 KTPA of ethylene vinyl acetates (EVA) and low density poly ethylene (LDPE).
EVA and LDPE products are in line with Sipchem strategies to implement downstream projects that are integrated with Sipchem current products to satisfy local needs and in addition to meet international demand.
